For the first time in almost two decades, an extremely rare butterfly, known as the red-spotted patch butterfly, has been spotted in Texas.
The butterfly was seen in South Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley in Mission, near the National Butterfly Center
The staff of the National Butterfly Center told MySA.com that the species is rare because it is not a butterfly that is common in the Rio Grande Valley, and tends to be more commonly seen in Northern Mexico.
The last time one was seen in Texas was in 2006.
