There are 190 different breeds of dogs that can be found in the United States. However, some are favored more than others, as many dog owners have a preferred type of breed when picking out a canine companion. Now, the American Kennel Club has unveiled their list of the most popular dog breeds by state, and the top choice for Texas may surprise some.
The American Kennel Club is a nonprofit that keeps a registry of purebred dogs across the country, and recently used their data to unveil a list of the most popular dog breeds in America. According to Dallas Morning News, their data from 2023 revealed that French bulldogs were the most popular breed in Texas. Following Frenchies on the list were Golden retriever, Bulldog, Labrador retriever and Poodle.
As for the top choice, French Bulldogs have become increasingly popular in recent years, first cracking the top five for Texas back in 2016. Now, they have become the most popular breed in the entire country, as the AKC’s list for top dog breeds in America had Frenchies at the top as well. If this trend continues, they may have to drop the French part of the name.
