Nestled amongst the large houses in Preston Hollow sits a tiny home straight out of Middle Earth.

77-year-old Phyllis Glazer began construction on her home in the early 2000s, at first envisioning the place to be a thatch-roofed Irish cottage, modeled on a house in the John Wayne film The Quiet Man.

Then, she saw Peter Jackson’s version of The Lord of The Rings, and pivoted.

She told the Dallas Morning News, ““t was an escape.  It was a mythical place that ends up well, and that’s what I needed — to live in a myth that ends well.”

Dallas-based architect David Stocker was among the first calls Glazer made when planning her home some 20 years ago.  He likes the uniqueness of the home, standing aside the “more conventional, with cookie-cutter housing developments and overgrown homes that look like they were pulled from an upscale catalog,” as the DMN describes.

Stocker said, “Maybe we’ll find a group of wealthy people who say, hey, we should do houses that are interesting and not just like every other house.  That would be great.”
