Texas police officers are asking motorists to be on high alert over a new text scam regarding unpaid traffic tickets that are completely, 100% fake.

The text claims to be from the Texas DMV and informs drivers they have traffic tickets that need to be paid, with the goal of the victim clicking on a link and entering their personal information.

Per FOX 4, authorities warn there are several “red flags” that can be found in these texts, including the use of intimidating language with the goal of getting the victim to act quickly, like "immutable credential endorsement," "registration voidance," and "statutory 30-day suspension.”

Officers advise that if you suspect a text to be a scam, then you should look up the phone number for your local law enforcement agency or local court to contact them directly.

Police stations across the state recommend taking these steps in dealing with these messages:

-Do not click links in suspicious messages
-Do not respond
-Do not send payment
-Do not share personal information
-Delete the message
