The team behind Hurtado Barbecue is dipping their culinary toes into a new delicacy with a brand-new restaurant set to open in the former home of the Texas Rangers.

If you visit Globe Life Field now for a Rangers game, you can enjoy some Hurtado BBQ for yourself who has a location on site, but you’ll have to go to Choctaw Stadium next door to sample the crew’s new Tex-Mex restaurant Loma, which is set to open in spring 2026.

Loma will replace El Tiempo, a fajitas restaurant from Houston that did not last long at Choctaw.

Hurtado Barbecue owner Brandon Hurtado says he was asked by the Rangers organization to open a new restaurant in the space formerly occupied by El Tiempo, and he knew exactly what kind of restaurant he wanted to open because “there’s a lack of Tex-Mex in that immediate area,” he told the Dallas Morning News.

Loma is expected to specialize in Wagyu fajitas, plus Tex-Mex staples like salsa, queso and house-made tortillas, and there is little chance Loma sells Hurtado food.

“I don’t foresee us blending the two together,” Hurtado said. “This is an opportunity for us to do something that’s absolved from barbecue.

Loma will be at 1011 Nolan Ryan Expressway, Arlington and is expected to open in early April 2026.
