Four firefighters at Station 9 in the city of Irving were called out to the scene of a fire around 9:30 this past Saturday morning.
About 15 minutes later, a pedestrian called the department to inform them smoke and flames were coming out of their station at 8101 Jetstar Drive!
The department says the fire started in the kitchen.
Chad Moose, Public Information Officer for the Irving Fire Department, told WFAA, "The most heavily damaged area is the kitchen. Within the past couple of weeks, that stove actually had a maintenance order on it and was repaired for malfunctioning."
Moose said nobody was inside the station at the time of the fire, and the kitchen took the brunt of the damage. Thankfully, no equipment was damaged during the incident.
Station 9 will be closed indefinitely, with its firefighters staying at Station 12 and Station 7 for now.
