We know a lot of states are encouraging motorists to give up their gas-powered vehicles in favor of electric vehicles.  Texas has not gotten to that point, yet.

Apparently, it's baby steps for officials with the city's office of Environmental Quality and Sustainability, who are moving forward with a plan to encourage Dallas residents to give up their gas-powered lawn tools.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the program would "reimburse residents who switch from gas-powered lawn mowers, leaf blowers and other landscaping tools to battery or electric-powered equipment."

Whether or not those residents would receive discounts, vouchers, or a mail-in rebate for their gas-powered tools has yet to be determined.

Paul White II, the department's assistant director told City Council members during a committee meeting on Monday, "This program aligns with the city's commitment to reduce our carbon footprint.

"When compared to electric equipment, the gasoline-powered equipment emits high levels of pollutants that contribute to air quality issues, such as particulate matter and greenhouse gases. So transitioning to electric alternatives benefits the health of the community by reducing emissions that could eventually lead to respiratory issues."

The program would begin sometime in 2025.
