It all began with a little bit of luck.
Arlington resident Ron Isbell won tickets to the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary from a radio station.
That trip sparked an interest that has carried Isbell across the world for almost four decades.
Isbell is currently in Milan-Cortina, attending his 14th Olympic Games.
He told NBC DFW just what it means to him to be able to attend the Games. “It’s just so much fun seeing so many events in person and meeting people from other countries,” he said, pausing as emotion crept into his voice. “Sorry, I get choked up.”
His home is filled with Olympic memorabilia, including official clothing worn by athletes during the Opening Ceremony, miniature torch replicas, stacks of event tickets, and perhaps most famously, pins. Thousands and thousands of pins.
14 down, and Isbell hopes to continue this journey for many years to come.
“I definitely just want to keep trying to go to all of them as long as I can,” he said.
