You know, if this happened closer to the Red River Rivalry we'd think a few Oklahoma fans were trying to mark their territory, but a creek in Richardson mysteriously turned red over the weekend, befuddling residents and town officials alike.
Now, we know the reason why.
The water in Floyd Branch Creek in Richardson turned red over the weekend due to runoff from a spill of soap detergent from a car wash nearby. According to FOX 4, apparently the car wash discharged its main wastewater line after a blockage which is what turned the creek red.
The city of Richardson worked overnight to clear the creek and reassured that the detergent was non-hazardous. The North Texas Wildlife Center says it has crews in the area to help any wildlife affected by the spill.
The city of Richardson says that the car wash in question, Clean N Shine Express Carwash, will receive an illicit discharge citation, which is punishable up to $2,000. The owner will also be responsible for any expenses incurred during the mitigation and cleanup.
