When Sinéad O’Connor announced a new memoir was on the way back in December, fans knew it would be full of interesting stories from the singers career. Now, with ‘Rememberings’ due out next month, some of those stories are starting to be revealed. O’Connor recently shared a story about Prince she has been teasing for years.
Sinéad O’Connor’s biggest hit, ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ was famously written by Prince, but according to O’Connor, the collaboration wasn’t always positive. O’Connor claimed after the song became a hit, she was summoned to Prince’s home where he “chastised her for swearing in interviews, harangued his butler to serve her soup though she repeatedly refused it, and sweetly suggested a pillow fight, only to thump her with something hard he’d slipped into his pillowcase.” The singer continued saying after she escaped, Prince “stalked her with his car, leapt out and chased her around the highway.”
According to Stereogum, a longer version of the story is included in ‘Rememberings.’ Despite writing her biggest hit, O’Connor said of Prince, “You’ve got to be crazy to be a musician, but there’s a difference between being crazy and being a violent abuser of women.” ‘Rememberings’ is due out June 1.
