Most Texans can be described as generous, often looking out for their fellow neighbors, but apparently some Texans may be a little too generous. A new study found that Texans are tipping more than the rest of the country. While tipping is up nationwide, data has revealed Texans are tipping three times more than the national average.
The rules on tipping seem to have changed in recent years. While many were taught to tip 20% for good service, some restaurants now recommend tipping up to 35%, with others already including gratuity on every check. Now, a new study conducted by SpotOn found that tipping is up 9% nationwide, but in Texas specifically, the dollar amount of tipping is up 35.1%.

According to Dallas Observer, it’s not just tipping that is up, as food costs are up 20.4% in Texas as well. “The fluctuating market will continue to present challenges to maintaining a healthy restaurant profit margin," said Kevin Bryla, head of client experience with SpotOn. Sadly, as prices continue to increase, it seems so will tipping in Texas.
