2020 wasn’t all bad. Having the highways clear because everybody was working from home wasn’t too terrible, right?
And 2020 was the year we all became obsessed with the Leaning Tower of Dallas, the 11-story building just north of Downtown off 75 that failed to completely demolish and was left standing at an angle for 16 days.
Well, Artemio De La Vega, CEO of De La Vega Development, told WFAA their vision for The Central, a 27-acre mixed-use district planned at U.S. 75 and North Haskell Avenue, "is coming together."
The company is in the permitting phase for a 400-unit residential high-rise and wellness club at the site, and they are currently under contract with a developer to bring a hotel from Marriott's Autograph Collection to the location.
Development of the area began in 2022, following several years of delays due to Covid.
The first phase of development of The Central began with a 21-unit high-rise, The Oliver, which De La Vega says has been “very successful” since opening in October 2024.
