When the Outlets at Hillsboro first opened in 1989, it became a premier shopping destination for people traveling between DFW and Austin.
However, over the last 20 years the shops have seen a steady decline in business and customers. These days, only two stores remained operational – a Bath and Body Works and a Nail Salon.
It was announced earlier this week that the outlet will be demolished to make way for something new.
Hillsboro City Manager Megan Henderson told WFAA the city plans to redevelop the mall, and construction is even set to begin soon. She said, "We'll be keeping about 25% of the buildings, which will be reconfigured for use as part of the redevelopment, but 75% will come down."
The city is planning a four-day sendoff for the outlets with a "Mallmageddon" party April 17-20 featuring a carnival, music, and more!
