It’s severe weather season across the state of Texas, though unfortunately with all these storms, there’s only so much you can do to prepare for the worst.
Freddy McKinney is a storm chaser who was tracking a recent tornado that touched down in Hawley, about 200 miles west of Dallas.
As he was driving to film the devastation, he found a family of four, Kasey and Wes Lambert, along with their 7-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter and their dog, running towards him. Their house had just been destroyed, and he urged them to hop in his vehicle immediately in order to take them to safety.
7-year-old Lane Lambert was picked up and thrown 25 feet by the tornado. Thanks to McKinney, he was quickly taken to a hospital to quickly take care of his wounds.
The Lamberts told CBS News they are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support from the community as they heal and cleanup what's left of their home.
The National Weather Service believes the tornado that hit their home was likely a strong EF3 or a weak EF4, but the agency will need a few more days to review the data before making a final determination.
