Nickelback talk Triple H, ‘Everything Under The Sun,’ and more

Nickelback is on the cusp of releasing their 11th studio album, with Everything Under The Sun slated to arrive on October 30. Along with a massive upcoming tour, the band is firing on all cylinders, but stopped down long enough to talk with Abe Kanan about their new project, and how a relationship with WWE and Triple H helped them land a surprise #1 hit.

Before Nickelback was ready to unwrap their new album and share the lead single, fans got an early entry into Everything Under The Sun, thanks to Triple H and the WWE. “Our manager's got a really good relationship with the guys, and so I think every time they need a song, I think they make the rounds, and they're like, ‘can someone please give us some material,’” shares Chad Kroeger. “Our manager fired over a song that was done, and they're like, ‘we love it, we wanna just use this right away.’”

“We were a little concerned about that, that's not the first single and we're not ready, and yeah the rest of the record's not even done and they're like, ‘well you know we're gonna promote the hell out of it so just like give us the tune.’”

That was enough for the group to decide they were ready, but what happened next surprised them all, as Canadian radio stations started playing the track, and thanks in part to the band’s lawyer, it shot to number one.

“Our lawyer who's been our lawyer for 30 years, he goes, ‘I'll just get on the phone. I'm just gonna start calling program directors across the country and I'm just gonna see if I can do something with this song.’”

“He jumps on this group email and he says, ‘well, just so you know, you're gonna be number one next week,’ and we're like, ‘no way,’” reveals Chad. “It wasn't even supposed to be a single and we were just like, ‘dude, that's insane.’”

Nickelback has since followed with a few more previews of Everything Under The Sun, including the actual lead single, “Rattle The Cage,” “Leave Me Behind,” and “Make Me Love You.”

“We had fun making this record because, we have that luxury, there was no one like, ‘OK, you, you have to have this record done by such and such a date.’ There's no hurry, there's no pressure,” explains Kroeger.
