Jacobson, a talent agency owner based in Vancouver utilized the personal video app, Cameo, which allows fans to request custom video messages from artists, celebrities, and public figures that have profiles on the app. Robinson has a profile on Cameo and charges $350 to create touching video shoutouts.
Jacobson shared the video on Twitter and wrote, "My mom grew up on the same street as Smokey Robinson in Detroit. So for Chanukah, I wanted to reunite them via @Cameo. But the video takes a strange twist."

When Smokey’s video begins he is kind and truly excited to be providing a touching moment. "Hey, Margo! How you doing? Surprise surprise. This is Smokey Robinson. I know you didn't expect to hear from me, but I was contacted from your sons," greets Robinson. "They told me you used to live in Detroit across the street from me, and gosh that's beautiful. How you doing again? Nice talking to you again, I guess."
Just as Smokey starts to fulfill the initial ask of the video, which was to wish Margo a happy Hanukkah, something hilariously odd occurs.
"But anyway you're living in Vancouver now and they (your sons) wanted me to wish you Happy Cha-nook-ah. I have no idea what Cha-NOO-kah is, but happy Cha-NOO-kah because they said so! Anyway, God bless you babe, and enjoy Cha-NOO-kah. Have a wonderful time," exclaims Smokey as he seems unfamiliar with the spelling “Chanukah.”
Hanukkah is spelled in various ways. The “H” and double “K” spelling is most widely used; however, all spellings are correct. And according to Smokey we apparently have a new pronunciation for the Jewish holiday now too.
