Many of the people now depending on food banks have never done this before, and the system can be difficult to navigate. People are out of work, hungry, and often not sure where to turn for answers. That's why officials in Alameda County are working to make things a little easier.

Many of the people now depending on food banks to feed their families have never done this before, and it's not always clear where to go, or how it work, That's why the Alameda County Social Services Agency has rolled out a new interactive map.

Anissa Basoco Villareal with Alameda County's public services agency said their new interactive map is easy to use. Users simply just plug in their address or zip code and the site will provide a list of food options within a radius as small or as large as requested. The map also points users toward more than a bag of groceries or a hot meal.

The interactive map can answer such questions: where is the closest food bank, who qualifies to get groceries or a meal there, which days are they open, and more. The Alameda County Community Food Bank said that calls to the center have increased by 1000%.
