People who have been financially impacted by the coronavirus pandemic are getting a helping hand with their pets. Some of that assistance is now available in San Mateo County, where a new food bank for pets has opened. The project is a collaboration between the Peninsula Humane Society and the SPCA.
“We want to do everything we can to keep animals with their families,” said Buffy Martin Tarbox, “you know there are people who are impacted financially.”
The animal organizations want to make sure pets can stay with their families during the coronavirus pandemic and remain fed even if owners are financially impacted.
Tarbox says the pet food bank is open to San Mateo County residents. Those needing assistance are asked to call or email first to get food primarily for cats and dogs.
”We have turned our thrift store in Burlingame which is called ‘Pick Of The Litter’ into a food distribution center,” said Tarbox.
People can visit, by appointment, on Fridays from 11am to 1pm. Additionally, if people are unable to leave their homes, the Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA can arrange for pet food delivery.
