Bay Area Gas Prices Dropping Dramatically During Pandemic

Gas Prices, Gas Pump

Terry Sutton found several gas stations in the East Bay selling regular unleaded for $2.29 a gallon.

“I love it, this is the way it should be,” said Sutton, who planned to use her savings on other pandemic staples, like food and toilet paper.

The main reason gas prices are so low is so many California drivers are not driving to work during the statewide shelter in place, but now some people are coming out to take advantage of the price at the pumps.

“They’ve been kind of busy, now that the prices are lower,” said Liz, the manager of a Sinclair gas station in San Leandro, “I’ve been seeing a lot more customers coming in, not as many during the commute hours, but the traffic has been a little steady.”

There's no telling how long low long cheap gas will last; for a list of the lowest prices across the Bay Area listen for the KCBS Gas Price Watch report.
