Bay Area counties are now requiring that their residents wear face masks whenever they are out in public amid the coronavirus pandemic.

San Francisco is now one of six Bay Area counties that have announced the requirement, along with Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, and Sonoma.

Aries Jackson, a food delivery employee in San Francisco, says of the required face masks, "Well it is what it is. At least the rate of the virus is going down.

Meanwhile, other essential workers are coming up with ways to help people who want to run errands and don't have a face mask in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Store manager of Marina Supermarket Darryl Sultan says, "If a customer comes into the store without a mask, we can refuse service. If we have a mask, we can give them one."

Mayor Breed is encourage people not to confront people who aren't abiding by the guidelines. "If you're not a police officer, don't act like one. We don't want people to confront one another," he said.

Marin County's mask requirement takes effect on Wednesday, with many businesses already on board, ABC7 News reports.

Being caught without a face mask could mean fines between $50 and $1,000. Officials are hopeful that residents will voluntarily comply with the new regulations.
