A child who flew with the 177 other American evacuees from Wuhan, China has been taken to a Northern California hospital after contracting a fever.
Dr. Henry Falk with the Centers for Disease Control said the child and the child’s mother were transported from the Travis Air Force Base to a nearby medical center for isolation and evaluation.
“Children have fever for a number of different reasons, and so the child is being evaluated at this point and will be put in isolation and tested,” said Falk.
The Americans evacuated from Wuhan will be kept at the Travis base for 14 days to be monitored.
They will be housed in lodging generally used for visiting military families. They will not be restricted to their rooms and will have access to a common area.
Medical personnel will test them for a fever two times per day.
“Because these people lived in Wuhan, the epicenter of this outbreak, where there was intense and escalating community widespread of a novel virus, they’re classified as being high risk of exposure,” said Falk.
Falk would not disclose whether any of the evacuees were originally from the Bay Area.
