It’s a hard time for a lot of businesses, but there is one Bay Area company in operation since 1952 that is now unexpectedly seeing a huge increase in demand.
TAP Plastics’ San Francisco location is at 154 S. Van Ness St. When you step inside, it’s nice and quiet.
Why? The plastic windows, of course.
"It blocks the sound dramatically," Manager Roy Madriaga said.
The barriers between you and the grocery clerk, to be exact.
"We’ve been custom building and going crazy," Madriaga said.
In the noisy back room, you watch two men wearing shirts that read "Six Feet Please" use high-powered tools to shape new guards. The room is full of pieces of plastic in a large assortment of sizes, all with a neon blue film that protects it from scratches before its installed.
"Its been taxing, you know, for everyone, even my staff," Madriaga admitted. "You’ve gotta laugh. You need to laugh just to stay healthy."
