What used to be The Emeryville Recreation Center is now a home for homeless families.
Emeryville Mayor Christian Patz told KCBS Radio that the family shelter is opening in collaboration with the City of Oakland and East Oakland Community Projects.
“We have a housing crisis going on throughout the Bay Area: We have too many unhoused people and not enough resources for them,” he said. “So they will come here and not only get immediate shelter, but there will be wraparound programs to get them in sustainable programs.”
