As health officials continue to emphasize testing as one of the most important keys to reopening the Bay Area, a new drive-up testing facility opened on Monday in East Oakland, an area that needs it the most.
Walk-in testing is available at the nearby Roots Clinic at International Boulevard and 98th Avenue.
The drive-up site is at the Allen Temple Baptist Church, where Senior Pastor Jacklyn Thompson said they're not using their parking lot very much.
“Yes, we’ve given all of it to the testing site,” Thompson said. “It was really important to me that we had community-based testing in communities like ours where we tend to be disproportionately affected by health incidents like this.”
The Covid-19 testing is free, without regard to insurance or immigration status, although you do need to make an appointment.
