Contra Costa County is easing shelter-in-place restrictions by allowing hair salons, barber shops, churches and other activities to reopen Wednesday.

That’s welcome news for your grown-out quarantine hair.

It’s a sound you haven’t heard in a while - scissors snipping. But, expect to see some changes when you arrive at your salon. At Beauty Lounge in downtown Walnut Creek, you’ll need to wait outside and get your temperature checked before you take a seat.

"When (customers) arrive, we’ve asked that they wait outside until we text them, because we need enough time to sanitize from the before them," hair stylist Melissa Malungani said.

"I’m wearing a mask, I’m wearing a shield, I’m wearing gloves the whole time," Malungani said. "We’re going every other chair so there’s not another stylist next to me."

They’re also cutting back on certain services, so don’t be surprised if you leave the salon with wet hair.

"We’re not going to blow dry, just to kind of cut down on exposure time, but also not to blow around any possible germs."

The good thing is, it’s only temporary. Just like your long hair.

In addition to salons and barber shops, Contra Costa County is easing restrictions for religious services and funerals. The new order also increases the number of swimmers allowed to share an outdoor pool.
