SANTA ROSA, CA (KCBS Radio) — Three schools in Santa Rosa were placed on lockdown for several hours Tuesday morning after a shooting was reported at the Ridgway High School.
The shooting was reported at 8:56 a.m. and witnesses told police the suspect shot one male victim before fleeing onto the Ridgway campus, prompting police to shut down the school and the nearby Santa Rosa High School and Santa Rosa Junior College while they searched for the suspect.
Police were able to apprehend the suspect by 10:30 a.m. but the schools remained on lockdown for about one additional hour while police searched for the gun.
After searching all three campuses police lifted the lockdown and say they do not believe the weapon was left behind.
Police stress that this was not an active shooter incident and the shooting appears to be isolated.
The victim, a teenager, was able to drive himself to a local hospital where he is being treated for a wound in the abdomen. His condition is stable.
After the lockdown was lifted students were told to remain on campus where classes resumed their normal schedules.
All school lockdowns lifted. Police conducted a thorough sweep of the campuses. There is no evidence that the weapon is on campus. The suspect is in custody & there is no threat. Students will remain on-campus & continue with their regular schedule. #ridgewayshooting
