Authorities have ordered evacuations in Novato while firefighters try extinguishing flames that started near Highway 37.

The fire had burned four acres early on Tuesday afternoon, but Marin County Fire Battalion Chief Bret McTigue said that shifting winds made it tough to contain.

Still, after 2 p.m., the fire's forward progress had been halted authorities said.
