A new era on Market Street in San Francisco begins Wednesday as authorities implement a traffic plan that bans private cars from the corridor slicing downtown.
The change is being enacted as city planners look to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists in what had been a deadly gauntlet. Several intersections on Market Street from between Main Street and Van Ness Avenue ranked high among the most dangerous in the city.
Now, those blocks will be limited to buses, Muni's streetcar line, taxis and commercial vehicles.
KCBS Radio will provide special coverage of the transformative moment in San Francisco with live reports along Market Street and guests providing insight and analysis about the historic update from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
