Dave Patrick Underwood’s silver casket sat center stage at the Pinole Valley High School theatre surrounded by sprays of flowers. Hundreds gathered to pay him honor, too many to properly socially distance, his sister Angle Underwood Jacobs remembered her brother as a kind man who was a lefty baseball pitcher and basketball athlete. She said he dressed well, loved his cars, his friends and family, and helped out with community baseball programs.

“He believed that the key to living life is to treat people with dignity, humility and grace,” said Jacobs, “that was out brother Patrick.”

She added the family has received words of comfort from all over the world, from faith leaders in Great Britain, Africa and the Vatican.

Underwood was gunned down while guarding the federal building in Oakland on May 29th, the FBI says the gunman may have ties to a right wing extremist group.

Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf got choked up at the memorial.

“Angela, I see now we have more than 240,000 men and women in the Department of Homeland Security - and each of them would gladly pick up Patrick.” Said Wolf
