Menlo Park police are searching for a man who shot a dog in its yard on Sunday night, then rode off on a bicycle.
Police said that officers responded to shots fired at 8:38 p.m. in the 1100 block of Hollyburne Avenue. When police arrived, the dog’s owner was tending to the animal, which had been shot in the shoulder area.
The suspect has been described by investigators as a Hispanic male in his late teens or early 20s wearing a black-hooded jacket and dark-colored pants with a dark-colored mountain bike.
According to police, the suspect stopped his bicycle after seeing the 4-year-old terrier in a yard and pulled out his handgun to shoot the dog, for no known reason. The suspect was last seen fleeing on his bike riding north on Pierce Road.
The dog was taken to a veterinarian and was in stable condition as of Monday morning, according to police.
