While many Californians may be feeling a little bit of cabin fever while sheltering in place, a new poll finds that despite the suffering, there’s still widespread support for the stay at home orders. The California Healthcare Foundation, based in Oakland sponsored the poll which asked Califroninaiasn if they wanted to continue the shelter in place despite the economic hardship. Three out of four respondents of the poll said yes.

“I really think the doctors and scientists are the ones that need to give the guidance,” said East Bay resident Cathy Bennett, who thought slowing the spread of the virus was more important than returning to normal life.

“They might find social distancing can be done fine with some businesses,” said Bennett.

Zocalo Coffeehouse in San Leandro, a normally bustling cafe, is now doing counter service only.

“I think that the shelter in place should go on for as long as it needs to,” said owner Sara Ubelhart, “if we can't gather physically, we just have to think of other ways we can be together or practice community in our daily lives.

The survey also found that only one in ten people wanted to lift the lockdown to help the economy, if it would increase the spread of the virus.
