The historic lighthouse at Point Reyes National Seashore is set to reopen this Friday, after more than one year of renovation work.
The 13-month makeover included restoring the lighthouse lens and clockworks, replacing roofing, repairing water and rust damage, cleaning all iron components and repainting.
The lighthouse, which is perched 10 miles out on the ocean, has stood since 1870. Throughout the decades of salt air and spray, extreme wind and moisture, it experienced grave deterioration.
The repair project cost $5.7 million, which was largely raised through visitor fees to the park.
