If you're looking forward to enjoying the weekend, here are some things to do that are happening around the Bay Area as well as some important traffic and transit information.

It’s a good weekend for football fans as the Stanford Cardinal takes on Arizona on Saturday and the 49ers meet the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. In San Francisco, Bernal Heights enjoys its annual Fiesta On The Hill celebration and in Santa Rosa, it's Science Discovery Day at the Fairgrounds.

BART riders in the East Bay will see significant delays for trips between Lafayette and Walnut Creek. The track work will possibly affect drivers on eastbound Highway 24 as well.

SOUTH BAY:

Sun, Oct 27 at 1:05pm: Levi’s Stadium: The 49ers play the Carolina Panthers. Approximately 61,000 fans are expected, with stadium parking lots opening at 9:35am and gates opening at 11:05am.

  • Areas and roadways affected: There will be increased traffic on Highways 101 and 237, I-880, the Lawrence and San Tomas Expressways, and Great America Parkway. Traffic impacts will begin to be felt from around 9:30am until game time and then again after the game lets out (guesstimated at around 4pm). Tasman Drive will be closed from Convention Center Drive to Centennial / Marie P DeBartolo Way beginning at 1:30am and will remain closed through the game. Parking will also be prohibited on the posted areas of Lick Mill Blvd.

EAST BAY:

Fri, Oct 25 at 11pm continuing thru Monday morning, Oct 28 at 7am: On eastbound Hwy-24 at Oak Hill Road (near Lafayette BART), the two left lanes will be closed all weekend due to BART work taking place next to the freeway.

IN ADDITION, all day Saturday and Sunday, Oct 26-27: The BART tracks will be shut down between the Orinda, Lafayette, and Walnut Creek BART stations. No trains will serve those stations – instead, free bus service will be provided. BART riders can expect delays of 40 minutes or more.

  • Pro tip: If things get gnarly on eastbound Hwy-24, you might be able to shave a few minutes off your travel time through judicious use of eastbound Mount Diablo Blvd as an alternate. But if you’re traveling through this area on BART, those 40 (or more) extra minutes of travel time are baked in the cake.

PENINSULA:

Sat, Oct 26 at 12:30pm: Stanford Stadium: The Cardinal takes on the University of Arizona Wildcats in a midday game at home.

  • Pro tip: It’s a short walk from Caltrain’s Stanford Station to the Stadium but not all trains make the Stanford stop. To find out which train you need to take on Sunday, pre- and post-game, follow the links on this page
  • Areas and roadways affected: There will be heavy traffic on Embarcadero Road, El Camino Real, and Sand Hill Road from mid-morning to game time and again after the game lets out.

SAN FRANCISCO:

Sun, Oct 27 from 10am-4pm: San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood: Fiesta On The Hill takes place on Cortland Avenue between Folsom and Bocana Streets. Family-oriented, alcohol-free festival with live music and 100+ booths for arts, crafts, organizations, etc. Petting zoo and pumpkin carving for kids. At noon there’s a costume parade with marching band.

  • Pro tip: If you choose to drive and do manage to find street parking (congratulations!), be sure and turn your wheels if you’re on any kind of a grade so Muni’s parking officers don’t leave a present on your windshield.
  • Areas and roadways affected: From 6am to 7pm, Cortland Avenue will be closed between Folsom and Bocana Streets (7 blocks); and Moultrie and Ellsworth Streets will be closed in the one-block stretch between Eugenia and Cortland Avenues.

NORTH BAY/SOLANO:

Sat, Oct 26 from 10am-4pm: Santa Rosa Fairgrounds hosts North Bay Science Discovery Day. Part of the Bay Area Science Festival, Science Discovery Day has over 100 exhibitors with hands-on activities for 4th through 8th graders, along with a printed program to guide attendees, and the whole thing is free, as is the parking (follow the signage for “Science Fair Parking”).
  • Pro tip:  The Fairgrounds are not expected to undergo any power shutoff, however, you’ll want to go to this Events Status page because, at last word, Cal-Fire crews were using Lot B, so parking has been re-routed a bit, for both this event and the adjacent Pumpkin Nights.
