California officials have sued a billionaire over a dispute about a secluded public beach near the tech entrepreneur's property in Half Moon Bay.
The California Coastal Commission and State Lands Commission demand that Sun Microsystems co-founder Vinod Khosla dismantle a gate and no trespassing signs on or near the only road to Martin's Beach.
The road to the public beach cuts through Khosla's property. For more than a decade, he's been trying to keep visitors away from Martin's Beach
Khosla, who bought the 88-acre property for $32.5 million in 2008, contends that he owns the road and the state is trying to seize his property without compensation.
A judge in a different lawsuit brought by environmental groups against Khosla sided with him in November, saying that because a previous owner charged visitors to park there is a history of permitted, not public, use of the land.
