Governor Newsom is launching a new volunteer initiative to enlist healthy CAlifonrians to help others survive the COIVD-19 pandemic The Governor is also renewing his warnings against expecting the shelter in place orders to be lifted anytime soon. The new initiative is called Californians for All, and it asks anyone who can to donate blood, check on a neighbor, or shop for a senior who can’t go out safely.

The new website, CaliforniansForAll.CA.GOV, is a one-stop-shop for potential volunteers. Governor Newsom said at his daily briefing that the need for such help will not go away soon because the state’s coronavirus caseload is still growing, with a modest spike in the last 24 hours in hospitalizations, ICU cases, and deaths. It’s why he’s asking the counties that are considering relaxing social distancing rules to take a deep breath.

“If we pull back too quickly, those numbers will go through the roof,” said Newsom, “I don’t think any of the people, in their good will and the spirit in which they are wanting to loosen things up, are wanting to see those numbers increase and spike because of those decisions.”

Newsom will release a progress report on where the state stands on meeting the six criteria in his ‘Roadmap to Reopening’ at his next briefing Wednesday afternoon.
