PG&E customers should expect to see higher bills in the near future, as California creeps closer to the peak of wildfire season.
The increase is in response to state regulators for more money to move and store gas. On average, PG&E says, users bills will go up $1.73 per month for gas. The extra money will fund upgrades and safety measures on 6600 miles of PG&E’s gas transmission’s pipelines.
There’s a chance that bills will continue to go up as well, as the utility tries to work its way out of a more than $51 billion bankruptcy, caused by wildfire lawsuits and other debts.
The October 1 increase will put the new average PG&E bill in the state at almost $169.50.
