Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi joined Vallejo city officials in calling on the FBI to investigate the police killing of Sean Monterrosa.
Monterrosa was fatally shot by Vallejo police on June 2 amid protests in the city over the killing of George Floyd.
In a statement Friday, Speaker Pelosi said the killing of the 22-year-old San Franciscan was "a horrible act of brutality,” and called the reports that key evidence in the investigation was destroyed "deeply disturbing."
The brutal police killing of Sean Monterrosa continues to shake the Bay Area. I join Sean’s family & others in calling for an FBI investigation into Sean’s murder, including into the destruction of essential evidence in this homicide case. https://t.co/FpwiBAoIU8

July 17, 2020 Speaker Pelosi also challenged the Senate to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which aims to transform the culture of policing in America. The bill was passed by the House on June 25.
“May Sean’s memory be a source of strength to all as we seek justice in his name," Pelosi said. "May it be a comfort to his family and loved ones that so many in our city mourn with and pray for them during this devastating time.”
