Calling on California to open businesses again, thousands of protesters gathered Saturday outside the State Capitol in Sacramento.

These folks came from all across the state, many arriving by chartered bus. Many were carrying large signs that read anything from "Stop Government Anarchy" to "Open Up California Right Now." 


Some are even calling for a recall of Gov. Gavin Newsom.

"I came here to support small business," Thania told KCBS Radio. "I actually am a part of a small business. I think that is the root of America and I see it being decimated right now."

Very few people wore face masks and there was little social distancing. It was almost like a big concert, with throngs of people packed tightly together.

Jim drove seven hours from Orange County to be there Saturday.

"We've been attacked, our freedom, our rights," Jim said. "These politicians think they run the country. No. We run the country and they work for us."

There were hundreds of California Highway Patrol officers standing guard on the State Capitol lawn, which has been closed to the public.

Last week, Gov. Newsom announced significant changes to the speed at which individual counties can reopen.
