6 Great Things To Do This Weekend In The Bay Area

Looking for something to do in the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend? Meet the Giants and take pictures with the World Series trophies, or be awed by 39,000 blooming flowers! Below are events, festivals and shows sure to entertain and inform this weekend.

1. Tulipmania

Starting at 10 a.m. each morning through February 17Pier 39, San Francisco

Stop and smell the flowers! On Saturday and Sunday, head to Pier 39 and enjoy over 39,000 blooming flowers at this year’s Tulipmania.

Those that are hungry for gardening tips, and actual food, can take a free guided tour by the pier’s landscaping experts. Tours will begin in the entrance plaza each morning at 10 a.m., At the end of each tour, participants will be treated to a free bag of donuts and a coffee from Trish’s Mini Donuts.

2. SF Giants Fan Fest

Saturday, February 8 from| 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.Oracle Park, San Francisco

The 27th Giants Fan Fest is taking place this Saturday at Oracle Park. Event-goers will be able to explore the field and take pictures with the World Series trophies. Players and coaches will also be available for autographs at different stations around the park. Admission is free and the first 10,000 people will also receive a free Giants mystery item. 

"We have a lot of new players that our fans haven't met yet, a new coaching staff, and of course our new manager Gabe Kapler," said Mario Alioto with the team.  "Our players will be here, there'll be Q&A stages, there'll be autographs, and our concession stands will be open."

3. Chinese New Year Parade

Saturday, February 8 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.San Francisco
The largest parade celebrating the lunar new year outside of Asia is happening this weekend in San Francisco. The Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade will take place Saturday night and celebrate the Year of the Rat. The free event will step off at Second and Market Streets and end at Kearny Street and Columbus Avenue. Tickets must be purchased to sit in the bleacher sections.

Oakland Lunar New Year

Saturday, February 8 and Sunday, February 912 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.Oakland Museum of California, Oakland
Oakland is also celebrating the Year of the Rat with an Lunar New Year festival this weekend. Attendees can enjoy live cultural performances, demonstrations, hands-on activities, food, music, dance, storytime and a petting zoo. The event is put on by the Oakland Museum of California and all of the activities available are included with museum admission.

5. Watch the Full Moon at Sierra Vista in San Jose

Saturday, February 8 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve, San Jose
Enjoy a unique view of February’s full moon with a walk through the Sierra Vista. The Open Space Authority is hosting the family-friendly viewing. The event will allow participants to watch the full moon rise over the eastern foothills as they walk 1.2 miles around the Aquila Loop Trail. Attendees are encouraged to bring warm clothes, a flashlight and water or hot chocolate for sipping.

6. I Love Rohnert Park Free Comedy Show

Saturday, February 8 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.Sally Tomatoes, Rohmert Park

Laugh it up at the I Love Rohnert Park Free Comedy Show. Comedian Terry Dorsey will perform, featuring Franco Tevini and other special guests. The night will be hosted by Jon Lehre. Food and special drinks will be available all night long.
