The San Jose Public Library system has launched its express pickup program to the delight of  book lovers, and Monday was the first day for pickup, which is being offered at 10 of the 25 library branches, one branch library per council district.

Tables are set up outside the popular Edenvale library branch, on what Nancy Macias with the library describes as an exciting day.

“Our new contactless service SJPL express pick up, gives people the opportunity to request and borrow physical items, something they haven’t been able to do since our temporary closure March 16,” she told KCBS Radio.

Patrons can go online or call a branch to reserve an item, and are then notified when it’s ready. Items are then put on a table for pickup after texting upon arrival. Layla Farivar was the first in line to pick up items with her 5-year-old.
