In this age of coronavirus, San Jose State’s “Admitted Spartan Day” is now a weeklong virtual event. The fun and learning kicks off Saturday and will feature videos and webinar sessions.

Usually the 10 to 11,000 students who will attend San Jose State in the Fall come to campus for Admitted Spartan Day.

“This year, things are different, so we are actually having Admitted Spartan Day, but instead of just one day where everyone comes to campus it's now going to be done online and distributed over the course of a week,” said Vice President of Student Affairs at San Jose State Patrick Day.

Students can learn about housing, student life, financial resources and even take a virtual tour and engage with a tour guide.

“[Student’s will learn] what its like to walk around the campus, what it’s like to walk by the student union or the statues that we have in the middle of our campus that are so famous,” said Day, “They’re really going to feel what its like to be a student at San Jose State.“

The same number of students have signed up to attend the virtual event as attended in person last year, which Day says is a good indication. There are still unknowns, like when in-person campus life will return. Unemployment has also hit students and their families.

“There are lots of students who work and it's a part of their education as it is for many students across the country,” said Day, “we are anticipating we are going to have to create some bridges for students to get through this, but that’s what we do here.”

Unknowns remain for current and future students,  as they do for everyone, like when shelter in place orders will be lifted and what that will look like.
