
“It’s gonna be super helpful because normally we have to purchase protein, we don’t get a lot of protein donated,” said food bank spokesperson Keely Hopkins, “so this is incredible.”
And yet, as generous as the donation might be,117,000 portions of chicken will only go so far considering the San Francisco Marin Food Bank now provides enough food each week for 55,000 people. That is an increase of 20,000 more each week than before the COVID-19 lockdown.
“We anticipate that need will continue as long as this pandemic continues, and even after,” said Hopkins, “we’re projecting serving about 25% more food for the next several months, even after the shelter in place orders are lifted.”
