SF Officials Move To Keep Cars Off Part Of Market Street

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency on Tuesday is expected to finalize a plan that would eventually ban private vehicular traffic on a large portion of Market Street.

The idea behind the Better Market Street Project is to create a kind of pedestrian plaza, making the space safer for bicyclists, e-scooter riders and pedestrians, and to help MUNI vehicles and taxis move more quickly across the city.

Market Street would still be open to private cars above Octavia Street, into the Castro and beyond.
