San Francisco police have shut down an underground nightclub in the Bayview for violating the city’s stay-at-home order.

Over the weekend, police raided the illegal nightclub on Shafter Avenue, which was also operating without proper permits, alarms and the required amount of exits.

City Attorney Dennis Herrera said surveillance video showed dozens of people entering the venue over the last month arriving in cars, taxis and ride hailing vehicles.

“None of those individuals or parties are operating in accordance to social distancing rules,” Herrera said. “There were also complaints about gunfire at the club.”

Police Chief Bill Scott added that no one practiced six feet of social distancing while at this nightclub.

“All the people who have attended this club, prior to us shutting it down, have put themselves and others they have come in contact with, at risk,” Chief Scott said. “And that is simply unacceptable.”

The closure comes weeks after San Francisco ordered all bars and nightclubs to cease operations to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Court documents show that the tenant operating the club told the property owner he was using the building to store materials for his janitorial company.

No arrests have been made, but Herrera says police could conduct a criminal investigation.
