Even with fewer cars on the road due to shelter-in-place orders, traffic across the Bay Bridge Wednesday morning was snarled after a shooting late Tuesday night.
The shooting involved at least three vehicles in the westbound lanes of I-80 on the skyway near the Fremont Street exit at about 11:25 p.m. Tuesday.
One of the two victim vehicles crashed, another fled in the direction of the city's Potrero Hill neighborhood. At least one person was injured, although it is unclear if the injury was the result of the shooting or the crash.
"We're trying to find out exactly why this occurred, how many victims we have," says CHP spokesperson John Franzen.
All westbound traffic was forced off of I-80 at the first San Francisco exit, Fremont Street, creating a major backup that at one point lasted for 90 minutes on the bridge when all five lanes funneled down to just one.
CHP spent over six hours on the scene gathering evidence. No arrests have been reported as of Wednesday morning.
