San Francisco Firefighters pulled five people from strong rip currents Thursday afternoon at Ocean Beach in San Francisco.
The incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. near Great Highway and Sloat Blvd.
"All five of these victims at this time are reported to be in a position where they will recover," Lt. Baxter said.
Lt. Baxter said there were so many people in need of assistance at once, a full rescue might not have been possible without the help of the surfers.
