When are schools going to reopen?
It’s the question parents, teachers and students are wondering.
"The issue that’s on everyone’s mind is school reopening and we know there have been announcements about when school will reopen," California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond said in a virtual media session Wednesday morning. "We don’t know exactly when school is going to reopen, but we’ll continue to track the advice of experts and health officers at the state level and the county level to help guide us to making those decisions."
Thurmond said that it will be up to each district to address the "new normal," instead of a statewide mandate.
"We know that a school may reopen in a way where students have to wear a mask, where teachers and staff have to wear a mask," Thurmond said.
Thurmond left the door open to continued distancing learning, where some students may not be physically going to school on a full-time basis.
"Some school districts might choose to open in a hybrid model, where there’s some in-class instruction and there is still some distance learning," Thurmond said. "At this time, we’re working with our school districts to keep all options open."
