Crime increased in Vallejo during PG&E's intentional power outage, according to city officials.

More cars and businesses were broken into as burglars took advantage of the darkness and diminished security, according to Vallejo Police Lt. Kenny Park.

“Unfortunately when there's natural disasters and incidents like this, there’s always a very small percentage of people that might look at that as an opportunity for personal gain,” said Park.

Property owners were encouraged to be vigilant during the so-called Public Safety Power Shutoff that started Friday.

The Police Department has called in officers on their days off, to be proactive and increase patrols.
