The Veteran’s Administration is looking to fill a number of positions, including frontline health professionals. The hirings are intended to bolster the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. There are openings for nurse practitioners, registered nurses, supply technicians, but also housekeeping and police.
“We are really looking to hire quality people,” said Hospital Director for the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System Thomas Fitzgerald. He says frontline clinical staff are paramount.
“As the surge occurs, it will help us still be able to provide care to our regular patients that don’t have COVID-19, but also be able to provide bedside care.” said Fitzgerald.
Dual compensation waivers can be authorized for retirees who receive pensions while receiving full compensation for employment for one year. Fitzgerald says there have been no layoffs from the VA.
“When you think about getting rich in the heart, you can definitely do that by choosing VA and choosing to take care of those who have served this country,” said Fitzgerald.
VA Palo Alto Health System has ten Northern California facilities: inpatient, outpatient, and nursing homes.
