Police are investigating yet another "Zoom Bombing" of a virtual classroom in the Bay Area, after a hacker exposed East Bay elementary school students to adult images.
On Monday, during a Zoom P.E. class for 5th graders at McKinley Elementary School, hackers invaded the session, used profanity and then showed adult pornographic images.
“The teacher immediately recognized that, of course, this was a hack, and they shut down the stream, then contacted the San Leandro Police Department,” said Lt. Ted Henderson with the SLPD.
Lt. Henderson said it's believed the hackers used a username and password from someone who had access to the Zoom meeting, and their special victims' unit is now investigating.
“We just cannot tolerate, and we’ll do our best to prevent, our children from being exposed to pornographic images, especially in school,” Lt. Henderson told KCBS Radio.
San Leandro Unified declined to comment, but in a statement the school district said it is implementing new security settings for all Zoom meetings, and students are no longer allowed to sign-in with personal email accounts.
